Rams beat Patriots for third consecutive win

DOYLESTOWN — Maybe it’s because Mike Class is only a sophomore, but even after Pennridge dropped its first three games of the season, he said he believed the Rams would be 3-0 in the league right now.

That’s what Pennridge is after recording a 28-14 win over Central Bucks East on Thursday night at War Memorial Field.

The Rams (3-3, 3-0 SOL Continental) scored the game’s first four touchdowns and led 28-0 after three quarters.

“After the three losses, we said we’re just going to come out and start over,” Class said after rushing for 110 yards and three touchdowns. “That’s what we did. We started over and now we’re getting these good wins.”

While Pennridge has learned how to win, the same can’t be said for the Patriots (0-6, 0-3 SOL).

They had chances, but failed to cash in on a drive that they took inside the Pennridge 10-yard line in the first quarter and got nothing on another pair of drives that started in Rams’ territory.

“If we cashed in on some things in the first half, it would have been much tighter than it was,” East coach John Donnelly said. “I give our guys a lot of credit. They’re fighting. They’re banging away.”

But Donnelly said the time has come for his team to start winning games. “We’re getting closer to where we need to be,” he said. “We need to get there a little faster.”

Pennridge coach Randy Cuthbert, on the other hand, has a team that is playing with confidence and cohesion.

“We’ve really come a long way,” Cuthbert said. “We were telling them that the first three weeks of the season they had faced more adversity than what you usually see in a whole year or two.”

Besides Class’ big day, the Rams got a solid performance from James Marrero. Marrero rushed for 56 yards and scored a touchdown as well as catching a pair of balls from quarterback Alex Krivda for 68 more yards.

“We took the ball and we were able to run it inside and we were able to run it outside,” Class said. “We were able to do a lot of things, and that’s what we were able to do all week (at practice).”

Brandon Sparks rushed for 100 yards and scored a TD for the Patriots. Quarterback Josh Bernard also had a touchdown run.
